At 13,253 square feet, the seven-bedroom, five-bathroom property known as The Spalding House formerly served as the Honolulu Museum of Art, and sits on 3.44 acres in Makiki Heights overlooking Honolulu with views of Diamond Head as well as the city. 

The full estate includes a pool, auxiliary offices, a director’s residence, gift shop, classroom and studio, as well as mature gardens, according to the listing. Marketing materials note that The Spalding House could serve as either a gallery for a private art collection or be restored to its original use as a full private residence.

Honolulu Academy of Arts founder Anna Rice Cooke built the home in 1925 and named it Nuumealani, which means “Heavenly Terrace.” Cooke’s daughter, Alice Spalding, acquired the property in 1934 and sold it to the Honolulu Academy of the Arts in 1968, according to representatives. The main residence and gallery space are designated historic property.
